RINCIPLES OF FORMING THE OPTIMAL STRUCTURE OF ASPHALT CONCRETE

Based on the literary sources analysis, the requirements to composite materials ideal structure were formulated. The ideal compositional materials structure must consist of fine – dispersed mineral part fraction which particles are bound by thinnest bitumen films, according to the P.A. Rebinder`s physical – chemical mechanics theory. There was shown how asphalt concrete`s formula and structure influence the road surface operational characteristics. The active role of mineral powder in asphalt concrete structure forming was stated. The mechanism of structuring effect of a binder in composite and the way it influences the material`s properties was shown. The conversion of bitumen in material structure into thinnest adsorption layers could radically affect the asphalt concrete`s properties. It was stated that standard asphalt concrete mixture compositions do not meet the ideal structure requirements and that bitumen – mineral materials have great potential.
